On February 10, 2026, the founding conference of the Global Alliance for Trade in Services (GATIS) Digital Economy Committee was successfully held in Beijing. The event brought together around 100 participants, including officials from the Department of Trade in Services of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOFCOM) and the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, representatives of GATIS, member delegates of the Digital Economy Committee, and specially invited guests from various sectors.
At the first plenary session of the GATIS Digital Economy Committee, the Management Measures for the Global Alliance for Trade in Services Digital Economy Committee were reviewed and approved. The session elected the Chair Council Members, Chairperson, Executive Vice Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary-General of the Digital Economy Committee. It also reviewed and approved the annual work report and the 2026 fiscal budget report, along with key documents such as the Rules of Procedure for the Chairperson and the Organizational Structure Plan.
At the founding conference, Zhao Weidong, Secretary-General of GATIS, read out the Official Approval of GATIS on the Establishment of the Digital Economy Committee. Xia Quan, the newly elected Committee Chairperson, delivered a speech and presented the Founding Member Certificate to the founding members of the Committee. Jiang Zengwei, President of the GATIS, Zhu Guangyao, Level 2 Counsel (Deputy Director-General level) from the Department of Trade in Services of the MOFCOM, and Xia Quan, Chairperson of the Digital Economy Committee, jointly unveiled the nameplate of the "Global Alliance for Trade in Services Digital Economy Committee".
In his address, President Jiang Zengwei congratulated the Committee on its establishment. He emphasized that digital technology is profoundly reshaping the global industrial structure and competitive dynamics, breaking through the spatial and temporal boundaries of trade in services and fostering new business models. Digital trade has become a commanding height for international competition and cooperation, as well as an important driver for global economic recovery. The establishment of the Digital Economy Committee represents an important step by GATIS to keep pace with trends, strengthen its organizational framework, and enhance its specialized service capabilities. President Jiang Zengwei stated that GATIS will provide comprehensive support to the Committee, helping it to serve as a bridge for international cooperation, a professional global think tank, and a platform for industry practice. He also expressed the hope that the Committee will set an example for other specialized committees to be established under GATIS, and that together, they will make greater contributions to the high-quality development of global trade in services.
The establishment of the GATIS Digital Economy Committee marks a new step forward in GATIS's capabilities to serve the digital economy sector. Moving ahead, the Committee is dedicated to promoting the innovative development of digital trade in services, facilitating international exchanges and cooperation on the digital economy, and contributing to an open world economy.
