On December 4, 2025, the Global Alliance for Trade in Services organized a session focused on the WTO Agreement on Electronic Commerce, inviting government officials and experts to provide policy interpretations. Over 200 representatives from the Alliance's member organizations attended the meeting both online and offline.

During the session, insightful presentations were delivered. Wang Rong, Level II Division Rank Official from the Trade in Services Division of the Department of WTO Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, spoke on "WTO Agreement on Electronic Commerce: New Opportunities for China's Engagement in Global Digital Trade." Wang Yating, Deputy Director of the Trade in Services Division at the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, addressed the topic "Embracing New Rules for Digital Trade, Co-creating a New Future for International Cooperation." Chai Xiaolin, former Director of the WTO's Trade in Services and Investment Division, gave a presentation titled "Enhancing Digital Trade and Strengthening International Cooperation in Digital Trade." The member representatives responded with great enthusiasm, actively raising questions and engaging in in-depth discussions with the officials and experts on key issues such as digital trade rules, data governance, and consumer protection.
The Agreement on Electronic Commerce is the first global digital trade rules agreement reached by WTO members. Acting as a pilot zone, Beijing will take the lead in implementing the rules of the WTO agreement. The session provided a valuable platform for all parties to accurately grasp the policy trends in trade in services and deepen exchanges and cooperation within the industry.
Moving forward, the Alliance will continue to leverage its three core functions of promoting exchange and cooperation, facilitating think tank research and conducting policy dialogue. It aims to build global consensus and jointly advance the openness, cooperation, and innovative development of trade in services, injecting new momentum into global economic growth.
