Focusing on digital trade, exploring high-quality development

On the afternoon of November 6, the parallel session on "Exploring International Digital Governance and Creating Opportunities for Digital Industry & High-Level Dialogue on Digital Trade Innovation" of the sixth Hongqiao International Economic Forum was held in Shanghai. Through project launches, keynote speeches, and high-level dialogues, the session explored innovations and opportunities in digital trade, aimed to further expand China-Singapore cooperation, promote consensus on the development of digital trade, and drive the transformation of trade in services towards digitalization, intelligence, and green development.

The forum was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, and the Global Alliance for Trade in Services (GATIS), and was organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, Suzhou Municipal People's Government, and Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee. Leaders from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Low Yen Ling, the Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) of Singapore, leaders from Jiangsu Province and Suzhou, Jiang Zengwei, President of GATIS, and Peng Sen, President of the China Society of Economic Reform and former Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, attended the event and delivered speeches. Tang Xiaodong, member of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor, presided over the event.

During the session, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) delivered a speech titled "Research on High-level Opening of Digital Market," which was based on CAICT's investigation in Suzhou Industrial Park. The research shared experiences in promoting cooperation and openness in digital economic and trade development. GATIS, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tongji University, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology jointly released the "Index Report on Digital Economy Innovation and Intellectual Property Development in Key Cities of China." The report focused on the role of intellectual property in promoting urban digital economic innovation activities, protecting digital economic innovation outcomes, obtaining returns from digital economic innovation, and maintaining competitive advantages in the digital economy.

In the keynote speeches session, Jiang Xiaojuan, President of the China Society of Industrial Economics, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and former Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council; Paul Cheung, Director and Professor (Practice) of the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore; Wu Shenkuo, Doctoral Supervisor at Beijing Normal University Law School and Deputy Director of the Research Center of the Internet Society of China; and Frank Meng, Chairman of Qualcomm China, delivered speeches on topics such as "Promoting Digital Trade Cooperation and Development through Institutional Innovation," "Digital Delivery Trade: Growth and Challenges," "Development of Digital Trade and Orderly Flow of Cross-border Data Security," and "5G+AI: Empowering Digital Trade Innovation and Development." They provided insights and strategies for the development of trade in services. What are the highlights and challenges of enterprise digital trade innovation? How to build a mechanism for innovative development of digital trade? Where are the breakthroughs in optimizing the business environment for digital trade?

In the high-level dialogue session, representatives from organizations such as the China Outsourcing Institute, Atos, PatSnap, Azenta, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Wasion Group focused on the theme of "Exploring Mechanism Innovation to Deepen Digital Cooperation." Starting from the practical issues encountered by enterprises in exploring international markets and conducting international cooperation, they discussed how to optimize the development ecosystem of digital trade and cultivate entities engaged in digital trade operations.
